Coaching program

The OTTIAQ coaching program is designed to help tomorrow’s language professionals:

  • Learn the standards, rules, tools and responsibilities of the profession
  • Apply what they learned at university to a professional context
  • Benefit from the advice and supervision of an experienced OTTIAQ member who can help them achieve their goals

The program is supervised by OTTIAQ and takes place over three months.

For a translation coaching program, you’ll need to translate a minimum of 12,000 words and submit your work to your coach. Please note that you must meet the minimum word count. If you don’t have enough material to translate, OTTIAQ can provide you with some.

For a terminology coaching program, you’ll need to perform ad hoc research on 15 terms and create a full terminological record for each. You’ll also need to complete two term analyses, a subject-field tree, and a glossary of 30 terms.

Your coach will evaluate your work and meet with you three times during your program to discuss it. You’re expected to be proactive and take the initiative to get the most out of your coaching program, including asking questions, conducting research, taking notes, being observant, and asking for feedback from your coach.

The coaching program costs $535 plus tax.

University mentorship

If you’re enrolled in one of the six OTTIAQ-recognized university programs, you can take a mentorship program as part of your degree. And it’s free!

The three-month program is designed to help students:

  • Learn the standards, rules, tools and responsibilities of the profession
  • Apply what they’re learning at university to a professional context
  • Benefit from the advice and supervision of an experienced professional, assigned to them by OTTIAQ, who can help them achieve their goals

Requirements, evaluation, and mentee training module

Translate a minimum of 12,000 words.

Perform ad hoc research on 15 terms and create a full terminological record for each.

Complete two term analyses, a subject-field tree, and a glossary of 30 terms.

Mentors and mentees will meet three times during the program to discuss the mentor’s evaluation of the mentee’s work.

Mentees must be proactive and take the initiative to get the most out of their mentorship, including asking questions, conducting research, taking notes, being observant, and asking for feedback from their mentors.

Mentees have access to a free training module to support them during the program.

The module includes:

  • An introduction to the mentorship program and its components
  • An overview of the mentorship cycle
  • Mindset and skills development
  • Keys to a successful mentor-mentee relationship
  • Self-assessment tools and practical resources
