Course on ethics, professional conduct, and professional practice

Purpose

The purpose of the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ) course on ethics, professional conduct, and professional practice is to inform those seeking certification about OTTIAQ, its code of ethics and regulations, and Quebec’s system for regulated professions.

Audience

This course is designed for those seeking the certified translator, certified terminologist, or certified interpreter designation. It is the final requirement for obtaining one of these designations. It is also intended for potential candidates who wish to learn more about Quebec’s system for regulated professions and the requirements for becoming a certified professional.

Format

The course consists of an approximately one-hour video that explains the basics of Quebec’s system for regulated professions, how professional orders work in Quebec, and more specifically, how OTTIAQ works. This is followed by an overview of the main sections of the OTTIAQ code of ethics and the regulations that have a direct impact on the professional practice of translation, interpretation and terminology.

Passing grade

Candidates are assessed through a test at the end of the course. They must achieve a grade of at least 60% to be certified. Candidates who do not achieve a passing grade on the first attempt are allowed two more attempts.

The course is available through the OTTIAQ portal
