Certified Member of a Canadian Association

If you are already certified and a member of a Canadian association of certified translators, terminologists and interpreters, you can become a certified member of OTTIAQ by affiliation (for translators and terminologists only) or by way of legal licence to practise (for all three professions).

 

If you are a member of:

Complete the following forms: certification by affiliation application, confirmation of certification method (Appendix A), mutual certification recognition (Appendix B) and disciplinary decisions and court rulings and email them to the Certification Coordinator or mail them to the following address: 1108-2021 avenue Union, Montreal, QC  H3A 2S9. (The forms are available in French only.)

You will also be required to take the course on ethics and professional standards of practice if you have not already done so.

Additionally, pursuant to section 35 of the Charter of the French Language, you must have sufficient knowledge of French to obtain a permit. You are deemed to have sufficient knowledge if:

  • You have completed at least three years of full-time secondary or post-secondary education in French

OR

  • You have passed the French as a first language exams in your fourth or fifth year of secondary studies

OR

  • You obtained a secondary school certificate in Quebec in or after the 1985-1986 school year   

Please enclose your secondary or post-secondary diploma, if applicable.

After completing the course on ethics and professional standards of practice, you will be asked to fill out the membership registration form and pay your membership dues for the current year.
